Word Crimes: Are you afraid "Weird Al" is talking about you?

“Weird Al” Yankovic has a new video out based on Blurred Lines.

It’s brutal. The Grammar Police are sharing it all over the internet. It slams everybody who has ever misused the language publicly and suggests they go back to pre-school and quit breathing through their mouth.

I know people who would rather not write than subject themselves to this level of criticism. These are smart people. Successful people. People with amazing stories to tell and lessons we could all learn from.

Is this hitting close to home?

Consider an alternative. Use your spoken language skills and record your lessons and stories in an interview setting. People are much more likely to forgive your verbal transgressions when spoken in a podcast or video. If you’re blogging, the audio can be transcribed and rewritten by a good editor to eliminate all the grammar boo-boos. You’ll look brilliant and the words will still be your own.
